April Peters
Dr. April L. Peters-Hawkins is a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at the University of Houston. She has worked in the K-12 context as a middle school teacher, a school social worker, Dean of students, and a high school principal. In addition, Dr. Peters-Hawkins served four years as a consultant in the Atlanta Public Schools, providing professional learning and support to small school reform leaders. She previously served as Associate Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (DELPS). She is also a Past President of the University Council of Educational Administration (UCEA), a consortium of higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children. She is passionate about equity and social justice for the most vulnerable populations of students.
